Ladies' Ministry Update

It has been such a blessing to return to Zambia after our furlough time in the States to find the national pastors’ wives have continued and even moved forward with the ladies ministries in their churches. As many of you expressed interest in the ladies here when we talked, I wanted to share a few stories that demonstrate what the Lord is doing in the lives of our Zambian ladies.
The first week we returned, I paid a surprise visit on Saturday afternoon to Mrs. Margaret Munkanta, wife of Pastor Myson Munkanta at New Testament Baptist Church in Lubuto. Margaret was just returning from visitation and the ladies choir was gathering for practice at 4:00 o’clock. They invited me to their weekly ladies meeting on Thursday. Now that’s the kind of progress one wants to see when they arrive unannounced!!! I am so happy that we can share the Lord with these ladies and see the evidence of His love in their lives.
We traveled to Livingstone in the Southern Province to visit Victory Bible Baptist Church and Pastor Chilala Cheelo and his wife Abigail and were able to join them on visitation and teach a weekly ladies meeting there. Abigail shared some of the things she and her ladies have been working on to raise money in their church, and how the time they spend working together has brought them closer in the Lord as a ladies group. They have been making what they call “tablecloths” – which are table scarves to us – and I was so impressed with the process, I had to take some photos to share with you. Most of the Zambian homes use these “tablecloths” in their sitting rooms to cover the seats and arms of their furniture, and they are always clean and neatly pressed for guests. The framed weaving loom (which is homemade with sticks & nails) they use makes some beautiful scarves, and the yarn (or wool as they call it) only costs @75 cents per ball. The “tablecloths” are sold at the market in sets of 11 for a profit of @$14.85. The next project was some hand embroidered table scarves, sold in the same sets of 11 in the market for a profit of @$16.85. I’m sharing these details with you because it is such a blessing to see how Abigail has matured in the Lord and what a great little entrepreneur she has become!!!

If there are any of you who might like to be involved with any of these projects, I’m guessing any yarn, sewing needles or embroidery thread/needles you would like to send would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued prayers and support of the ladies ministries here in Zambia.
In Christian Love,
